Answer: One should see one's own body as without body and without mind, without emerging and without submerging, without inside and without outside, neither moving nor quiescent, without thought and without seeking, having no abiding place in either the mundane or the supramundane, with no mental factors, no dharmas of mind, mind and dharmas having no reliance, their nature having no beginning or end. Expounding such a Dharma with wisdom that has no reliance or abiding, teaching and transforming sentient beings so that all are led to awaken and enter—this is called seeing the Buddha's advent. As Mañjuśrī's verse in the Chapter on the Awakening of Light says:
'Transcending all views, / Both mundane and supramundane, / Yet able to skillfully know dharmas, / One will become a great radiance. / If toward all-knowledge / One gives rise to a mind of dedication, / Seeing that the mind is unproduced, / One will attain great renown. / Sentient beings are unproduced, / Nor are they ever destroyed; / If one attains such wisdom, / One will achieve the unsurpassed path. / In the one, understanding the immeasurable, / In the immeasurable, understanding the one, / Comprehending their mutual arising, / One will become fearless.'
The first two stanzas clarify the Buddha's advent, and the latter two stanzas clarify the wisdom within right awakening. One should know the Buddha's advent in this way; one should not let sentient beings grasp at the marks of the Buddha's appearance and disappearance, seeing a beginning and seeing an end, but merely see that the essence of body and mind of oneself and sentient beings is without arising or ceasing—this is leaving the world.
