Eighth, taking the protection of the true Dharma as the central tenet in the Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra: This is because this sūtra sets up a jeweled hall above the desire realm and below the form realm, gathering all humans and devas. The devas, humans, Māras, and Brahmās of the two realms above and below, as well as the eight classes of ghosts, spirits, dragons, and the like, and bodhisattvas from other directions, all assemble at the jeweled hall. If there are ghosts, spirits, and the like who do not go, the Four Heavenly Kings release glowing iron wheels to pursue them and make them go to the Buddha's place, where the Tathāgata commands them all to protect the true Dharma. Among all the demon kings, there is only a single demon king who does not obey the Buddha's command, [saying]: 'Wait until all sentient beings have fully attained Buddhahood, and then I shall generate the bodhicitta.'
