Ninth, clarifying from whom the bodhisattvas arouse the thought [of awakening]: They all take the beginningless discrimination and ignorance of their own minds as the beginning of arousing the thought [of awakening]; because they realize that this beginningless ignorance is itself the great mirror-like wisdom, they share the same roots of goodness with Vairocana Tathāgata of the ten directions. Apart from this wisdom, there is no time of attaining buddhahood, no day of seeing the Buddha. Therefore, the sūtra says: "Such bodhisattvas have all shared roots of goodness with Vairocana in the past," clarifying that realizing one's own ignorance forms the essence of great wisdom, and all Buddhas share this wisdom.
