First, as for Bodhiruci of the Later Wei establishing the teaching of one sound: it means that all sacred teachings are solely the Tathāgata's single perfect-sound teaching, yet because they accord with differences in faculties, there are various distinctions, as in the sūtra's "moistened by a single rain" and so forth. A sūtra says: "The Buddha expounds the Dharma with a single sound, and sentient beings each obtain understanding according to their kind."
