First, what is the virtue of establishment? It is like a great forest: inwardly inhabited by dragons and spirits, outwardly unbroken by great winds. If it were not like this, it could not be established high and prominent as a forest. This is to clarify that the bodhisattva of this stage inwardly possesses the dragon of great wisdom, constantly protected by the spirit of great benevolence and compassion, realizing inner tranquility of the objective sphere; outwardly unbroken by the winds of material sense-objects, using wisdom to destroy non-Buddhist paths and false doctrines so that nothing can fell them, they establish the myriad practices. Because they share this with all sentient beings and constantly benefit them, it is called the virtue of establishment.
