問：華之與鬘有何異耶？答：《涅槃經》云「願諸眾生皆得佛華三昧，七覺妙鬘繫其首頭。」故華之與鬘應是二物。若如維摩云「深心為華鬘」，則以華為鬘，應是一物。

Question: What is the difference between a flower and a garland? Answer: The Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra states, "May all sentient beings attain the Buddha-flower samādhi, with the wondrous garland of the seven factors of awakening bound upon their heads." Thus, a flower and a garland should be two things. If it is as Vimalakīrti says, "the profound mind is the flower garland", then taking flowers as a garland, they should be one thing.
