經曰「我於無量劫」至「誓不成等覺」者，述云：此後、對佛化德。誓有二：此初、財施化利誓也。經本不定，或云「不為大施主普濟諸貧苦」，或云「不為大施主終莫濟貧苦」，初本應正。有人釋此言法施化益。非也。欲濟貧苦必施財物故。

The sūtra says: "For immeasurable kalpas..." up to "I vow not to attain equal awakening." The commentary states: This next concerns the Buddha's virtue of conversion. The vow has two parts: this first is the vow to transform and benefit through the gift of wealth. Editions of the sūtra vary: some read "If I do not become a great benefactor to universally rescue the poor and suffering," while others read "If I do not become a great benefactor, may I never rescue the poor and suffering"; the former edition should be the correct one. Someone explained this as the transforming benefit of the gift of the Dharma; that is incorrect. If one wishes to rescue the poor and suffering, one must give material wealth.
