Regarding the passage from "courageous and vigorous" to "benefiting the multitude of living beings": The commentary states: Second is cultivating goodness. It has three parts: this first is unremitting cultivation. "Courageous and vigorous" is the initial vigor; having vowed not to fear the enemy, it is called "courageous." "Vows without weariness" is the second, applied vigor, advancing by adding cultivation. "Seeking the pure, white dharmas" is the third, insatiable vigor, cultivating without stopping. These are cultivations for one's own benefit. "Benefiting the multitude of living beings" is cultivation for benefiting others.
