Regarding the passage from "furthermore, in that land" to "ever harmonious and temperate": The commentary states: This second part is the adornment of the land being free of defilement. It has two parts: this first generally explains what is absent. That is, the accomplishment of the virtue of freedom from adversity. As the Treatise says: "Forever free from afflictions of body and mind, enjoying bliss constantly without interruption." Xi (creek), also written with the radical 谿, ku + xi; the Erya says: "Water flowing into a river is called a xi; flowing into a xi is called a gu (valley); flowing into a gu is a gou (ditch)." Qu (lü + ju) means ditch. The Guangya says: "An old pit." The Zilin says: "A small ditch, four feet in depth and width respectively."
