2.45

經曰「佛言善哉」至「所問甚快」者，述云：第四、歎問勅許。有二：初、歎其所問；後、舉德勅許。初又有三：此初、總歎也。阿難所問稱機及法而合時宜，故云甚快。

The sūtra says: from “The Buddha said, ‘Excellent!’” to “What you ask is most delightful!” The commentary states: Fourth, praising the question and giving permission [to ask]. There are two parts: first, praising what was asked; later, adducing virtue and giving permission. The first also has three parts; this is the first, a general praise. What Ānanda asked accords with the capacities and the Dharma and suits the opportune moment; hence it says “most delightful.”
