經曰「阿難諦聽今為汝說」者，述云：此第二、勅許以答所問也。諦聽者，即勅其後心。為說者，即許其前請。
The sūtra says: “Ānanda, listen attentively! I shall now expound it for you.” The commentary states: This is the second part, giving permission in order to answer what was asked. “Listen attentively” enjoins his subsequent mindset. “I shall expound it for you” grants his previous request.
