On the passage from "Dwelling in deep gates of concentration" to "all without exception being pervaded": The commentary states: Third is reiterated explanation of initiating cultivation. This has two parts: here, the first is initiating cultivation for self-benefit. Some say: 'Deep concentration' is the concentration on principle upon which supernormal powers are initiated. Some say: 'Pervading in a single thought' means entering concentration to observe sentient beings. Both are not correct. Since supernormal powers are phenomenal virtues, the concentration upon which they rely definitely cannot be concentration on principle; and beholding immeasurable Buddhas should not take only a single thought. In proper order, now [we explain]: because the concentration upon which supernormal powers rely leaves no object unobserved, it is called 'deep concentration'. 'Beholding all Buddhas' is the supernormal power of the divine eye. 'Pervading in a single thought' is the supernormal power of psychic transformation. Relying on this deep concentration to generate the divine eye, they are able to see all Buddhas, and thus they gather vast practices; they also initiate supernormal powers, reaching everywhere in a single thought to the Buddha-lands they behold, gathering merit and generating wisdom, and thus initiating practice swiftly.
