The sūtra says: from “Ānanda addressed the Buddha” to “I ask about this meaning.” The commentary states: This is the third part, Ānanda stating the reason for his questioning. In truth, although he was assisted by the Tathāgata's sustaining power, as he stood before the devas, he says that he asked on his own.
