The sūtra says: "Fully consummating the One Vehicle and reaching the other shore." The commentary states: This is the fourth [section], the extraordinary superiority of their perfected virtues. It has two parts: first, perfecting their own virtues; second, perfecting the virtues of transforming others. The first also has two parts: this first is the superiority of accumulated good. It has three pairs: this first is the pair of wisdom and abandonment. "One Vehicle" refers to wisdom: although there are three vehicles, the ultimate is not two, hence it is called "the One Vehicle." Some say: exhausting this One Vehicle is called "fully consummating"; reaching the fruit of nirvāṇa, it says "reaching the other shore." This is not correct. If they exhausted the One Vehicle and reached nirvāṇa, they would not be bodhisattvas. Here, their faith and understanding reach the utmost, hence it says "fully consummating." "The other shore" refers to abandonment: having attained the unconditioned through abandoning the cognitive hindrance, it says "reaching the other shore."
