Next, showing the distinctions in the benefits obtained after rebirth. For the three kinds of persons of the highest grade, the benefits obtained are each different. Those who attain the highest-of-the-highest rebirth immediately obtain the tolerance of the non-arising of dharmas upon arrival there—non-arising refers to the seventh bhūmi. Among them there are also those who obtain it after a long time, but this is stated in terms of the superior. Those who attain the middle-of-the-highest rebirth obtain the tolerance of non-arising after passing through one small kalpa; there are also those who exceed this, but this is stated in terms of the superior. Those of the lowest-of-the-highest come to abide in the first bhūmi after passing three small kalpas. For the three kinds of persons of the middle grade, the benefits obtained are also different. Those who attain the highest-of-the-middle rebirth immediately obtain the fruit of an arhat upon being reborn there; there are also those who take a long time, but this is stated in terms of the superior. Those who attain the middle-of-the-middle rebirth obtain [the fruit of a] srotaāpanna after seven days pass, and obtain [the fruit of an] arhat after half a kalpa passes. Those who attain the lowest-of-the-middle rebirth only obtain [the fruit of an] arhat after one small kalpa passes. For the three kinds of persons of the lowest grade, the benefits obtained are also different. Those who attain the highest-of-the-lowest rebirth reach the first bhūmi after passing ten small kalpas, because they were previously persons of the good destinies. Those who attain the middle-of-the-lowest rebirth hear the Dharma and arouse the [bodhi]mind after passing six kalpas. Those who attain the lowest-of-the-lowest rebirth hear the Dharma and arouse the [bodhi]mind after twelve great kalpas pass—arousing the mind refers to the gotra; because this lowest grade practiced the Great [Vehicle] in previous lives, they together arouse the great mind. The benefits obtained are like this. This concludes the fifth gate.
