Twelfth, the universal contemplation. How do the universal and the miscellaneous differ so as to make two? In the universal contemplation, one forms the thought of oneself going there, and contemplates everything completely in accordance with that realm. The miscellaneous contemplation explains that the spiritual power of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas is sovereign, their transformations are not constant, their size is indefinite, and they appear in response to beings; therefore it is named 'miscellaneous.' This constitutes the distinction. In the universal contemplation there are two parts: First, from 'When seeing this matter, one should give rise from one's own mind' onward, forming the thought of going there oneself. Next, from 'Amitāyus's transformation body' onward, the transformation bodies of the Buddha and bodhisattvas coming to appear.
