2.42

七、從如是時間下，至顏色和悅已來，正明父王因食聞法，多日不死。此正明夫人多時奉食，以除飢渴。二聖又以戒法內資，善開王意。食能延命，戒法養神，失苦亡憂，致使顏容和悅也。

Seventh, from 'during this time' down to 'his countenance was harmonious and joyful,' it directly clarifies that because the father-king ate food and heard the Dharma, he did not die for many days. This directly clarifies that the queen consort offered food for a long time to eliminate hunger and thirst. The two sages also internally supported him with the precept-dharma and skillfully opened the king's mind. Food could prolong life, and the precept-dharma nourished his spirit; sorrow was lost and distress was forgotten, causing his facial appearance to be harmonious and joyful.
