2.69

4. From "Then Vaidehī saw the World-Honoured One" down to "to be kinsmen with Devadatta," it clearly shows that when the consort raised her head and saw the Buddha, she spoke words of lamentation and grief, full of deep resentment and affliction. The phrase "tore off her necklaces" clarifies that the consort's body was adorned with necklaces, for her attachment had not yet been eliminated; suddenly seeing the Tathāgata, she was overcome with shame and tore them off herself.
