The general praise says: / “First teaching the sun contemplation to dispel darkness, / visualizing water into ice purifies the mind within; / beneath the earth, golden pillars reflect each other; / above the earth, adornments number hundreds of millions of layers; / jeweled clouds and jeweled canopies rotate in the sky; / human and deva music seek one another out; / jeweled trees hang with necklaces interspersed with varied fruits; / in the ponds flow streams of virtuous water pouring amidst the flowers; / jeweled multi-storied buildings and pavilions all connect with one another; / lights illuminate one another, equally devoid of shadow; / the three lotuses stand out alone, surpassing all other seats; / four banners hold canopies draped with nets of pearls. / Endowed with consciousness yet with mind confused, not yet understanding, / one stills the mind, contemplates the image, and sits quietly there; / in a single thought the mind opens, seeing the true Buddha; / the body’s radiant marks and embellishments become ever more abundant. / Rescuing from suffering, Avalokiteśvara takes the dharmadhātu as object; / at no time does he not transform and enter the Sahā world. / Mahāsthāmaprāpta’s majestic light can shake [the universe]; / following conditions, illuminating and gathering [beings], he joins with Amitābha. / Return, go back! / Settling the body in Sukhāvatī is truly sublime! / With right mindfulness, returning westward, visualizing oneself within the lotus, / seeing the Buddha’s adornments, hearing the sound of the Dharma preached. / Sentient beings furthermore have minds laden with delusion; / taking the true, supreme object as focus, they fear it is hard to achieve; / thus the Tathāgata opens the gradual contemplation: / the flower pond, sixteen-foot and other golden forms. / Though the manifested sacred forms differ in being large or small, / responding to beings and temporal suitability, they save sentient beings. / Universally I exhort fellow travelers, good friends, and the like: / single-mindedly recite the Buddha’s name, inclining westward!”
