Third, from "if there are sentient beings" down to "free from all faults," it directly clarifies the differences in receiving the teachings under the fifth and sixth gateways, which consists of four points: First, it examines capacity, distinguishing suitability and unsuitability. Second, it clarifies receiving and upholding the Hīnayāna purification precepts, and so forth. Third, it clarifies that because the power of the minor precepts is weak, it cannot eradicate the sins of the five deadly transgressions. Fourth, it clarifies that although one upholds the minor precepts and the like, one must not violate them; even if there are remaining faults, one must constantly repent and ensure that one is purified. This corresponds to the second blessing of moral goodness above. Furthermore, the duration of cultivating the precepts may be throughout life, or for one year, one month, one day and night, or one hour; the duration is not fixed, but the general intention is always to take the end of one's life as the limit, not permitting any violation.
