The words "with golden cords" and below directly explain that yellow gold forms the pathways, which resemble golden cords. Or mingled jewels form the ground and lapis lazuli forms the paths; or lapis lazuli forms the ground and white jade forms the paths; or purple gold and white silver form the ground and a hundred jewels form the paths; or inexpressible jewels form the ground and inexpressible jewels likewise form the paths; or thousands of myriad jewels form the ground and two or three jewels form the paths. In this way, they alternate and intermingle, mutually combine, illuminate each other, and display each other. Each light and color is distinct, yet without confusion. Practitioners must not say that there are only golden pathways and no paths made of other jewels.
