The second is the deep mind. The 'deep mind' is the mind of deep faith. It also has two aspects: First, one resolutely and deeply believes that one is presently a sinful ordinary person of saṃsāra, who since beginningless kalpas has constantly sunk and constantly transmigrated, with no condition for escape. Second, one resolutely and deeply believes that Amitābha Buddha's forty-eight vows embrace and receive sentient beings, and that without doubt and without worry, by relying on the power of his vows, one is certain to attain rebirth.
