2.53

「『三者發菩提心、深信因果、讀誦大乘、勸進行者。』」就中四句，初即發大心。菩提翻道，即無上道心。二即起大心。善惡因果皆我自心，了知畏慎，故云深信。三即生大解。教詮本智，因誦發生。四即修大行。勸誘修行，不令退墮。上三自行，後一化他。三、結告。

"'Third, generating the bodhicitta, deeply believing in cause and effect, reading and reciting the Mahāyāna, and encouraging practitioners.'" Therein are four phrases. The first is generating the great aspiration. Bodhi translates as "the Path", meaning the aspiration for the supreme Path. The second is giving rise to the great mind: wholesome and unwholesome causes and effects are all one's own mind; understanding them with awe and caution, it is therefore said to "deeply believe". The third is giving rise to great understanding: the teachings elucidate the fundamental wisdom, which arises through recitation. The fourth is cultivating the great practice: encouraging and guiding practice, not allowing regression. The upper three are one's own practice, and the latter one is transforming others. Third, concluding proclamation.
