「佛告阿難：『此經名觀極樂國土無量壽佛觀世音菩薩大勢至菩薩。』」總包依正，但缺徒眾。首題避煩，但摘五字，包攝亦備。二、約功用為名。

"The Buddha addressed Ānanda: ‘This sūtra is named Contemplation of the Land of Utmost Bliss, the Buddha Amitāyus, the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, and the Bodhisattva Mahāsthāmaprāpta.’" It comprehensively encompasses circumstantial and direct [retributions], omitting only the retinue. The title at the beginning avoids verbosity, taking only five characters, yet its coverage is also complete. Second, naming it with reference to its efficacy.
