The second section, the main body of the sūtra, is divided into three: from the beginning up to "anāgāmin," radiating light to reveal the lands and thoroughly determine their suitability for the capacities [of beings]; from "at that time the World-Honoured One" onward, second, directly elucidating the contemplation method as the correct cause of pure karma; from "when these words were spoken" onward, third, revealing the benefits and concluding with an exhortation to cultivate and practice. First, radiating light to reveal the lands and thoroughly determine their suitability for the capacities [of beings], in three parts: first, the Tathāgata radiates light to universally reveal the various lands; second, Vaidehī addresses the Buddha to select and determine one realm; third, Bimbisāra receives the light's protection and realizes the fruit of the path. The Buddha feared that people in the final age would think that one may be reborn in any of the pure lands of the ten directions according to one's vow, asking why one should specifically designate Amitāyus's single land; therefore he specially manifested this auspicious sign to resolve later doubts. Today many hold this view, precisely apprehending the Buddha's intention. First, the Tathāgata radiates light to universally reveal the various lands.
