"The Buddha told Vaidehī: 'You are an ordinary being; the power of your mind is weak and inferior. Having not yet attained the divine eye, you cannot see the Buddhas far away. The Tathāgata has extraordinary expedients to enable you to see them.'" Great provisional means lead to ultimate truth, hence he manifests identity with the ordinary. The divine eye is one of the six supernatural knowledges; there is nothing within or beyond obstructions that it does not penetrate completely. Although ordinary immortals and lesser sages may obtain the divine eye, they still cannot view pure lands in distant realms. As for "extraordinary expedients," if spoken in reference to the present audience, it refers to the aforementioned manifestation of the lands on the platform of light to let Vaidehī see them. According to the discourse of the transmitted teaching, it refers to the sixteen contemplation methods below, which are specifically meant for future generations. Wishing to show that the path of provisional and real wisdom is identical, he therefore says "the Buddhas." Second, praying for the methods on behalf of future generations has three parts: first, recounting her own attainment of seeing; second, grieving over others not seeing; third, presenting her formal request. First, recounting her own attainment of seeing.
