"‘Passing through three minor kalpas, he attains the hundred illumination-gates of dharmas and abides in the Stage of Joy.’" Regarding "the hundred illumination-gates of dharmas," the Avataṃsaka Sūtra states: "A bodhisattva on the first stage, in a single kṣaṇa, attains a hundred samādhis, sees a hundred Buddhas, is able by supernatural power to pass over a hundred Buddha lands, can shake a hundred Buddha worlds, his light illuminates a hundred Buddha worlds, he can bring to fruition a hundred sentient beings, can know the past and future for a hundred kalpas, can enter a hundred Dharma gates, and can manifest a hundred bodies; furthermore, as a single body, he has a hundred bodhisattvas adorning his retinue." In texts such as the Humane Kings Sūtra, there are a thousand illumination-gates of dharmas, ten thousand illumination-gates of dharmas, and so forth. The Stage of Joy is the first stage; because one first ascends to the noble fruition, there is much joy. Third, general conclusion.
