Answer: 'Their karmic burdens are light and few, and their seeds of goodness are reinforced; no longer possessing bodies of fragmentary samsāra, they have forever transcended the forms of coming and going. That they are equal to the Buddha does not violate principle. Thus the Amitāyus Sūtra states: "That Buddha's lifespan is long and cannot be calculated. Even if immeasurable sentient beings in the worlds of the ten directions were all to become arhats and together exhaust their contemplation for hundreds of thousands of kotis of kalpas, they could not know the limit of his lifespan; the lifespan of the bodhisattvas, devas, and humans is also like this." Furthermore, the Qingjingjue jing states: "Amitābha Buddha wishes to cause all types of sentient beings in the ten directions born in his land to reach nirvāṇa; if they are bodhisattvas, he causes them all to become Buddhas; having become Buddhas, they in turn teach and transform beings of the ten directions so that they also become Buddhas; having become Buddhas, they in turn teach and transform all sentient beings so that they all reach nirvāṇa, after which he enters parinirvāṇa." From this we know his lifespan is immeasurable.'
