The Commentary says: Fifth, vermilion pavilions soaring into the air. Regarding 'above are pavilions': pavilions arise above the ponds of the seven jewels, competing with the sky. 'Also with' means that the pavilions soaring into the air above the ponds of the seven jewels are likewise formed of jewels; hence it says 'also'. Gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, giant clam shell, red pearls, and agate—the seven jewels are explained as above. 'Adorned with' means embellished with solemn beauty. The Wuliangshou lun says: 'They serve as adornments for the ground.' The Guan jing says: everywhere there are pavilions of manifold jewels adorning the ponds above. From time to time one roams and enjoys them, repeatedly ascending them to gaze across the Pure Land, gladdening the mind and thoughts.
