Second, clarifying the auxiliary cause: because of upholding the name single-mindedly without distraction, and because it is the name produced by the inconceivable virtues of Amitābha Tathāgata. Saying 'for one day ... up to seven days' is because superior people accomplish it quickly while inferior ones ripen slowly. The *Sūtra of the King of Voice* says that reciting the name for ten days is because inferior people accomplish it only in ten days. Alternatively, one or two days is the cause for the lowest grade, five, six, or seven days is the cause for the middle grade, and up to ten days accomplishes the cause for the highest grade.
