'Buddha': now, the Dharma may generally be spoken by four kinds of persons; here it points to having heard it directly from the Buddha, not from disciples, sages, devas, or apparitional beings. In India he is called *buddha*; here translated as 'Awakened One', meaning one who has ultimately and completely awakened to the fact that all dharmas are mind alone. A person with such complete awakening is therefore titled the 'Awakened One'.
