'The trees of Jeta', and so forth, refers to the trees donated by Crown Prince Jeta and the park donated by the Elder Anāthapiṇḍada. 'Jeta' here translates as 'victorious in battle'; when this crown prince of King Prasenajit was born, the king won a victory in battle against a foreign country, and so named him on that occasion. 'Anāthapiṇḍada' is the language of this land; in Sanskrit it is Sudatta, which translates as 'Good Giver'. Because he practiced giving well, the locals praised him and named him Anāthapiṇḍada ('Giver to the Destitute and Solitary'). One who is young and fatherless is called destitute (*anātha*); one who is old and childless is called solitary. Because this elder constantly gave to such people, [he was so named]. That the trees come first and the park second is because the ruler is noble and the minister is humble.
