From "Śāriputra" onward, second, demonstrating directly. This has four parts: first, cultivating the cause; second, evoking the manifestation; third, demonstrating the benefit; fourth, attaining rebirth. In the first text, as for 'upholding the name firmly': 'grasping' (zhí) means grasping and accepting, and 'holding' (chí) means sustaining; through the power of faith one grasps and accepts it in the mind, and through the power of mindfulness one sustains it without forgetting. From 'that person' onward, second, evoking the manifestation. From 'this person' onward, third, demonstrating the benefit. From 'immediately obtains' onward, fourth, attaining rebirth. All are as in the text.
