Part Three, the Transmission Section. Faith, aspiration, and practice—the three essential points of the entire sūtra are complete. This supreme Dharma gate is extremely profound and difficult to believe; therefore, having spoken it without being asked as the initiation, he further cites the broad and long tongue appearance of the buddhas of the six directions to jointly verify it, so as to broadly transmit it. Were it not for the power of transmission, how could the snares and traps of the marvelous Dharma not be blocked from future ages, and how could the perfect and sudden essential mind-teaching be eternally transmitted to those who have not yet heard it? The text is divided into five parts: first, citing the praises of the buddhas of the six directions to urge faith and transmit; second, reiterating the name and explaining it to urge faith and transmit; third, urging aspiration and transmitting in terms of those already born, now being born, and to be born; fourth, citing the buddhas' praises of the difficult deed to strengthen faith and transmit; fifth, the great assembly's joyful reception in faith and transmission.
