"Along with" continues from the previous assembly of śrāvakas. Bodhisattva Mahāsattva translates here as "great mind of the Way that accomplishes sentient beings"; it is an appellation for exercising both compassion and wisdom to benefit both self and others. Mañjuśrī translates here as "wondrous auspiciousness", and also as "wondrous virtue"; the Buddha is the Dharma King, and the bodhisattva inherits the Buddha's family estate, hence called "Prince of the Dharma"; he is foremost in wisdom among the assembly of bodhisattvas, and since no one other than those with heroic, real wisdom can realize and understand the Pure Land Dharma gate, he is placed at the very beginning. Ajita translates here as "invincible", which is the name of Bodhisattva Maitreya; he will descend in the future to become a buddha and presently resides in the stage of virtual enlightenment; since his essential task is precisely to completely adorn and purify the buddha land, he is listed next. Gandhahastin translates here as "never resting", because he has practiced for countless kalpas without a pause. "Nityodyukta" (Ever-Vigorous) means that he works to benefit self and others without weariness. "And other great bodhisattvas such as these" also concludes what precedes and exemplifies the rest. Even bodhisattvas of such profound stages must seek rebirth in the Pure Land, because only by not being separated from seeing the Buddha, hearing the Dharma, and intimately attending upon and making offerings to the Sangha can they quickly and swiftly consummate bodhi.
