15.131

案寶亮曰：向為發軫深信人譬今第七，此明發家無好意而學大乘者也。或見他人得利養故，或貪名譽，故讀經典。雖然，眾生既非木石，後亦自當覺知經力，而得近道。敬遺記僧宗曰：向所說因遠，恐人心自絕，故復引之。莫問真偽，但能標心，自有深益也。

Baoliang comments: Previously, analogies were made for those who set out with deep faith; now the seventh layer explains those who leave the household with no good intention yet study the Mahāyāna. Or seeing that others receive offerings, or coveting fame and praise, they read the scriptures. Even so, since sentient beings are not wood or stone, they will naturally realize the sūtra's power later on and come close to the Path. Respectfully recording Sengzong's words: Because the previously described cause was distant, it was feared people's minds would give up of themselves; hence it is cited again. Do not ask whether it is genuine or false: as long as one can set one's mind upon it, there will naturally be profound benefit.
