15.49

案僧亮曰：學大乘者，有二事不須依人：一以積德深厚、二以大乘經力，自能降魔也。此即第一，顯菩薩德行，所以無畏也。

Sengliang comments: Those who practice the Great Vehicle do not need to rely on others for two reasons: first, because their accumulation of virtue is deep and vast; second, because through the power of the Great Vehicle sūtras, they are naturally able to subdue Māra. This is the first, revealing the bodhisattva's virtuous practice, which is why they are fearless.
