16.80

案僧亮曰：讀律列罪，譬藥發也。於外眾中無復通路，譬躄地也。內絕聖胎，譬無所知也。無有慧命，譬如死人也。

Sengliang comments: Reciting the Vinaya and enumerating the offenses is symbolized by the medicine taking effect. Having no further passage among the outer assembly is symbolized by collapsing to the ground. Severing the sacred embryo within is symbolized by being deprived of consciousness. Lacking the life of wisdom is symbolized by being like a dead man.
