19.108

案僧宗曰：秉正解以示人善道也。為代此三邪，故說三歸，非為理極也。寶亮曰：歸佛果無為之僧，便不畏有謬歸外道之失也。智秀曰：凡四行半偈，詶所請也。有三意：第一一行，許為說也；第二一行，顯今說為美，等迦葉於釋迦也；第三兩偈半，顯推教意也。

Sengzong states: Upholding correct understanding to demonstrate the wholesome path to people. It was to replace these three errors that the three refuges were spoken; it was not the ultimate principle. Baoliang states: Taking refuge in the unconditioned Saṅgha of the Buddha-fruit, one does not fear the error of mistakenly taking refuge in non-Buddhist ways. Zhixiu states: In all, there are four and a half verses responding to what was requested. There are three points: first, one verse promises to speak; second, one verse reveals that the present exposition is splendid, equating Kāśyapa with Śākyamuni; third, two and a half verses reveal the intention behind advancing the teaching.
