案法瑤曰：大眾聞見涅槃之相，理應一時雲集，不容前後；設復先後，亦不必如經所列也。慧朗曰：列數列名、歎德之事，准前可知也。

Fayao states: "When the great assembly heard of and saw the signs of nirvāṇa, in principle they should have gathered at once like clouds, with no allowance for before and after; even if there were earlier and later, it would not necessarily follow the order listed in the sūtra." Huilang states: "The matters of listing numbers, listing names, and praising virtues can be understood by following what came before."
