20.74

案僧宗曰：眾生有感果之力，果有酬因之用，故能轉闇為明也。乳之與酪不得為二，眾生與佛豈得為二？始終相續假說為一，正可得言從緣而生也。

Sengzong states: Sentient beings possess the power to invoke the fruit, and the fruit has the function of recompensing the cause; hence darkness can be turned into knowledge. Milk and curd cannot be made into two; how could sentient beings and the Buddha be made into two? From beginning to end there is continuity, provisionally described as one; it can properly be said to arise from conditions.
