案法瑤曰：若不知義者，則己道未成就，能以解利物耶？是以急須知法及義者也。寶亮曰：第二更無別旨。正以深得此十二名下所以，故名知義也。

Fayao states: If one does not know the meaning, one’s own path is not yet perfected; how could one benefit beings through understanding? Therefore, one urgently needs to know both the Dharma and the meaning. Baoliang states: The second has no separate essential purport. It is called “knowing the meaning” precisely because one deeply comprehends the rationale underlying these twelve names.
