案法瑤曰：自知兼物之道具，然後可以施化物也。可謂自知矣。寶亮曰：第五若不覺知自己有德，亦於應深進之義失。故能自知有解之少多，更莊嚴心業也。

Fayao states: Only after knowing that one’s own requisites for the path of benefiting beings are complete can one apply oneself to transforming beings. This can be called knowing oneself. Baoliang states: The fifth means that if one does not realize one’s own virtues, one will lose the meaning of advancing deeply as one should. Therefore, being able to know oneself the extent of one’s understanding, one further adorns the karma of the mind.
