38.50

案僧亮曰：釋空平等義，以明地相地名也。譬如虛空者，釋所以空。平等為地者，善修諸法空故也。智秀曰：明本性自空故無所見，非是不能見法也。

Sengliang comments: He explains the meaning of empty equanimity to clarify the characteristics and name of the stage. 'Just as space' explains why it is empty. 'Taking equanimity as the stage' is because of skillfully cultivating the emptiness of all dharmas. Zhixiu says: This clarifies that its original nature is intrinsically empty and thus there is nothing seen, not that one is incapable of seeing dharmas.
