39.8

案僧亮曰：第二事淺名知。與第八同知耶因不得正果。從初至牛糞之上，明四威儀苦也。衣麁麻衣至糠汁沸湯，明衣食受苦也。自下明行業苦也。寶亮曰：第二知外道所行法，不見其得善果也。

Sengliang comments: The second: what is shallow is called 'knowing'. Like the eighth, it knows that wrong causes cannot obtain correct fruits. From the beginning down to 'upon cow dung', it clarifies the suffering of the four deportments. From 'wearing coarse hemp clothes' down to 'chaff broth and boiling water', it clarifies the suffering endured in clothing and food. From here down, it clarifies the suffering of karma and activities. Baoliang says: Second is knowing the dharmas practiced by outsiders and not seeing them attain good fruits.
