案僧亮曰：此第五意，顯其內有大士之德，出於眾也。法瑤曰：敘其人地雖卑而志德甚大。苟有其道，不在貴賤，使斯下之徒皆不自輕也。智秀曰：所以不將供來者，為興催供之旨。

Sengliang notes: This is the fifth intention: revealing that he internally possessed the virtue of a great being, surpassing the assembly. Fayao says: It describes how, although his status and origins were lowly, his aspiration and virtue were immense. If one possesses the Way, it does not depend on being noble or lowly; this causes those of low status not to belittle themselves. Zhixiu says: The reason he did not bring the offering with him was to initiate the purpose of hastening the offering.
