40.38

案僧亮曰：此經辯十號，有正有雜、有略有廣。從如來至大法師，此初廣；後十號，略也。亦可前正後雜也。寶亮曰：念佛中有三翻，第一總舉佛果一切功德；第二歷十號；第三舉成佛之因。佛昔修六度眾德，今得常住，萬境皆照也。下五念皆真應雙明，但文中可見，不假有釋也。

Sengliang states: This sūtra distinguishes the ten titles; there are proper and mixed, brief and broad. From Tathāgata to Great Dharma Master is the initial broad [exposition]; the later ten titles are brief. Alternatively, the former is proper and the latter mixed. Baoliang states: In the recollection of the Buddha, there are three turns: first, broadly presenting all the merits of the fruit of buddhahood; second, running through the ten titles; third, presenting the cause for attaining buddhahood. The Buddha formerly cultivated the six pāramitās and myriad virtues, and now has attained permanence, with all the myriad objects illuminated. The subsequent five recollections all illuminate both the real and the responsive; since this is evident in the text, there is no need for further explanation.
