40.6

案僧亮曰：說地能已，說梵行粗竟，此歎佛也。初偈明佛善說正道，稱為醫王。次偈釋醫王義，備治所治，畢竟不發也。次偈與法設譬，後偈說法體。智秀曰：將欲諮前義旨，故第五先以偈歎佛及經教。

Sengliang states: Having explained the capacities of the stages and having roughly completed the explanation of pure conduct, here he praises the Buddha. The first verse explains that the Buddha is skilled at expounding the correct path and is called the king of physicians. The next verse explains the meaning of the king of physicians, who completely cures what is to be cured so that it never recurs. The next verse provides a simile for the Dharma, and the last verse speaks of the essence of the Dharma. Zhixiu states: Wishing to inquire into the meaning of the preceding topic, in this fifth [section] he first uses verses to praise the Buddha and the sūtra's teaching.
