46.52

案道生曰：答第六句也。僧亮曰：先答第六句也。生是假名，不可定說也。不生是無，而生能生無，亦不可定說也。僧宗曰：先答第六難也。不生即虛空。欲令虛空生者，不可說也。寶亮曰：後關七種章門，下自次第釋也。初六句悉作不定答，後一句明因緣故得生也。不生生不可說者，第一句明無定不生性，亦無定生性，云何可定說耶？

Daosheng says: This answers the sixth proposition. Sengliang says: He first answers the sixth proposition. Birth is a provisional designation; it cannot be stated definitively. What is unborn is non-existence; that birth could give birth to non-existence likewise cannot be stated definitively. Sengzong says: He first answers the sixth objection. The unborn is space. To claim that space is born cannot be stated. Baoliang says: In the latter set there are seven headings, which are explained in sequence below. The first six lines are all indeterminate responses; the last line explains that birth occurs by reason of causes and conditions. 'That the unborn is born cannot be stated' is the first line, showing that there is no fixed unborn nature, nor is there a fixed nature of birth; how could it be stated definitively?
