案僧亮曰：一字不作字相，一句不作句相，從經理門可說為聞因之成果，不如是者則非聞也。

Sengliang states: Regarding a single character without constructing a sign of a character, and a single phrase without constructing a sign of a phrase: from the perspective of the sūtra's principle, it can be said that hearing is the cause that accomplishes the fruit; if it is not like this, then it is not hearing.
